Description of learning outcomes in the field of study

The professional skills of Nurses are based on nursing science and require a multidisciplinary knowledge. The student’s professional growth: independent information acquisition, multidisciplinary co-operation, interaction skills, self-assessment and to give and receive feedback, is supported throughout the studies. In order to safeguard the rights of the profession, the Act on Health Care Professionals (559/94) and the Degree on Health Care Professionals (564/94) have been taken into account when planning the curriculum. The education of Nurses fulfills the requirements set by the European Parliament Directive (2013/55/EU) on the recognition of professional qualifications. Practice promoting professional skills (Degree concerning Universities of Applied Sciences 352/2003) correspond the clinical education set in the directive above for Nurses’ education.

Description of learning outcomes

A nurse (UAS) is an expert in nursing and works in basic health care, special health care, social care, private and third sector as well as with international tasks. Ethical principles and regulations guide the activities of a nurse. The skills of a nurse include promotion of health, clinical nursing, teaching and councelling. Cooperation with different professional groups is prerequisite for working as a nurse, also skills in administration, research and development. Social, multicultural knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship are needed in the work of a nurse. The education is based on the requirements according to the directives of the European Council concerning nursing education.

Description of learning outcomes in the advanced studies

The advanced professional studies consist of a total of 30 credits. During the advanced studies the student will deepen his/her knowledge in a chosen field of nursing and use Evidence based knowledge in supporting his/her own professional development and the development of nursing. The advanced studies consist of 12 credits theoretical studies, 15 cr guided practice in nursing unit of choice and 3 cr optional studies.
